Luderitz and surrounds are lucky if they get any rainfall in the year. Normally it is stone-dry and the sea-mist is sufficient to keep the desert-life going. Occasionally however, it can rain. And then the desert blooms. All plants which were not truly visable to the eye, suddenly sprang to life and splash colour around. In the shortest of time they're in bloom and reproduce. And the variety of flora is astounding. It is totally normal to count ten or more different species in a square meter around your feet.
We have had the great company of the ZEEPAARD owners. They do the tourist cruises to the seals, penguines, and historic diaz cross around Luderitz. Often they are lucky to encounter whales, orcas and dolphins. They showed us around their desert. And through them we learned a lot about life around Luderitz. From flamingos and high speed world records windsurfing, to crayfish and delicate sandroses in ancient dried up seabed.
We loved our time in Luderitz. Thanks for watching. Questions can be directed to Heiko of ZEEPAARD, ++264 (0)81 604 2805
